ASP 2026
We warmly invite you to attend the 34th Annual Meeting of the Australasian Society for Psychophysiology. ASP2026 will take place at the University of Wollongong, from Thursday, December 3rd, to Saturday, December 5th, 2026.
The conference will feature talks from keynote speakers, oral and poster presentations of original research in the fields of psychophysiology and cognitive/social/affective neuroscience, awards, and, of course, a social dinner.
As always, ASP places a particular emphasis on student involvement, and both undergraduate and postgraduate students are encouraged to attend and present their work to a knowledgeable audience as part of their career development. The late-year timing of the conference also provides the perfect opportunity for Honours students to present their recent work.
The ASP Executive have agreed to support several ASP2026 student travel awards, providing financial support for travelling students. This support is for any/all students who are eligible:
those who travel more than 100 km to attend the conference, and
are otherwise self-funded.

Conference Program
From 3-5 December 2026, ASP2026 will provide a welcoming forum for students and researchers at all career stages to engage with current psychophysiological research and emerging developments across the field. The program includes workshops, keynote presentations, an address from the EMCR Prize Awardee, and oral and poster sessions, showcasing the breadth of psychophysiological research being conducted across Australasia. Alongside the scientific program, delegates will have opportunities to connect with colleagues, exchange ideas, and foster collaborations within the ASP community, including at the conference dinner on Friday evening.

Keynote Speakers
Professor Craig Speelman
Professor Craig Speelman has held academic posts at UWA, UNE and Griffith University. He joined ECU in 1997. He was Head of the School of Psychology and Social Science (2002-2011) and was recently the Associate Dean Research in the School of Arts and Humanities. Craig conducts research in the general area of Cognitive Psychology, but much of his research has focussed on the topic of skill acquisition and transfer. Speelman has applied this expertise to developing a training program for basic arithmetic skills, where he produced the commercial app Numbeat. He has recently published a book with his colleague, Marek McGann, called The Great Psychology Delusion.
Professor Valentina Lorenzetti
Professor and Lead of the Neuroscience of Addiction & Mental Health Program; and Founding Deputy Director of the Healthy Brain and Mind Research Centre, at ACU. Professor Lorenzetti believes that everyone affected by addiction deserves the opportunity for better life outcomes. Her research team shares this core belief and aims to identify the core mechanisms of addiction and targets these using novel interventions, via advanced multimodal MRI, global multi-site studies & international consensus on new metrics.
Professor Eric Vanman
Eric Vanman is a Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland, where he studies the social neuroscience of emotion. His work uses facial electromyography, psychophysiology, & neuroimaging to ask how people respond to robots, and when the social brain treats a machine as a social partner rather than an object. He is also investigating human responses to AI and other intelligent agents. He currently leads an ARC Discovery Project on affective responses to robots.

Science Communication Skills, Spills and Thrills
Presented by
Theresa Larkin is an Associate Professor in Medical Sciences in the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Wollongong, where she has had an academic position since 2009. She has a BSc (Hons in Chemistry), PhD in Biomedical Science and Master of Higher Education. Her teaching areas are mostly anatomy and physiology, and she incorporates evidence based pedagogical principles, the cognitive theory of learning, and active learning with clinical application. Her research is broad and includes hormones and health, clinical anatomy, chronic pelvic pain, and representation of diversity. She is an engaging science communicator, with 25 articles published in The Conversation, and is a regular presenter on ABC Sydney, Melbourne, Illawarra and Triple J.
Literacy in the use of Artificial Intelligence in Mental Health: Understanding the current evidence and limitations of this emerging technology

Dr David Camfield is a Clinical Psychologist and board-approved supervisor who has been practicing across private practice and tertiary public mental health since 2017. David runs a private practice in the Geelong region, which specialises in evidence-based interventions including CBT, prolonged exposure, schema therapy, and EMDR. Prior to his clinical career, Dr Camfield also completed a PhD in cognitive neuroscience, as well as postdoctoral research in the fields of psychopharmacology and biological psychology. As an early adopter of AI in clinical practice, he founded the ASAIMH with a vision for mental health professionals to be central to both the development and application of AI as applied to mental healthcare within Australasia.
